"I don’t even remember exactly what pushed me to call that day. Maybe it was the third meltdown before breakfast. Maybe it was the school email. Maybe it was the silence from our social worker. All I know is, I was unravelling.

I’m an adoptive mum. I love my child fiercely. But love doesn’t erase trauma. And lately, I’d felt like I was failing at everything.

I stared at the number on the Adoption UK website for a long time. I almost didn’t call. What would I even say? But what did I have to lose?

“Good morning, thanks for calling Adoption UK. My name is Sophie, how can I help?”

Thanks to that call, I found the strength to try again. I wasn’t just another case. I was a parent doing my best. And that mattered. "
