Make your workplace more supportive for adoptive families. Join our corporate membership pilot

At Adoption UK, we’ve seen time and again how adoptive families and adopted adults bring incredible resilience, care and strength into their communities and workplaces. But we also know they often carry hidden challenges: navigating trauma, advocating for their children’s needs, managing identity questions, or juggling the demands of care with the expectations of work.

Too often, they do all this quietly and alone.

The Hidden Workplace Challenges for the Adoption Community

This year, for the first time, our annual Adoption Barometer explored how adopted people and adoptive parents experience working life. The results were clear, and concerning:

  • 55% said adoption and care experience are not addressed in workplace EDI (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) training

  • 65% had taken time off in the past year due to physical or mental health needs

  • 31% felt upset or embarrassed by how colleagues talk about adoption

  • 24% didn’t feel their employer understood the unique needs of adoptive families

But we also asked what would help. The answers were loud and clear:

  • 70% want adoption-aware training for employers

  • 63% would value EAPs (Employee Assistance Programmes) with specialist care-experience support

  • 49% want workplace peer groups for carers of care-experienced children

A Practical Way Forward: Join Our Corporate Membership Pilot -

That’s why we’re launching a new Corporate Membership Pilot. A practical, inclusive way for employers to show real support for adoption and care-experienced communities in the workplace.

Pilot organisations taking part will provide employees, whether adoptive parents, adopted adults, kinship carers, foster carers, or simply curious allies, with:

  • Full access to our Adoption UK Family and adoptee memberships through an organisation portal with instant, private entry to tools, resources, and support

  • Live adoption in the community training for your colleagues delivered by someone with lived experience

  • Expert content on trauma, education, parenting, identity, and wellbeing through the digital hub

  • Entry into community groups and local events to build your networks and connections with other adopters and adoptees

As a corporate member you will also receive discounts on enhanced employer services, including training for people managers and sessions with our Psychology & Therapy Hub.

Why Join the Pilot Now?

This pilot is about learning and leading. By joining us in this early phase, your organisation can:

  • Shape a bold, compassionate model of workplace inclusion

  • Give your employees real, tangible support, not just policies on paper

  • Be part of a movement that transforms hidden struggles into shared understanding

Together, we can make workplaces kinder, stronger, and more inclusive for adoptive families and care-experienced individuals.
